Party girls who love their funky shoes but don’t like the effect they have on their feet after a night out may soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief due to the enterprising efforts of a student from New Zealand.
University design student Aimie Whiting has been studying the typical party equation – that is fabulous shoes + partying all night = sore feet. She came up with the perfect solution by inventing three-inch polyurethane high heels which compress when they are worn, and relieve pressure on sore feet.
Aimie enjoys a good party like the rest of us, but was sick and tired of coming home with throbbing feet. She said,
“Fashion shouldn’t have to hurt! I like wearing high heels, and I like going out - I thought, there has got to be some way to make them comfortable.”
Aimie’s innovative design incorporates cushions which sit beneath the heel and ball of the foot, compressing and expanding like squash balls underfoot. This same squishy plastic extends down inside the hard outer layer of the shoe’s heel, so that the whole base of the shoe flexes just slightly with every step.
The long-awaited ‘24-hour high heel’ is still in the prototype stage, but girls all over the world will be queuing up to thank her for saving their evenings! Aimie is hoping that the design will be seized upon by a shoe company and that it will soon be able to go into production.
The idea is likely to make Aimie a heroine to all fashionistas, shoe lovers and party girls, but she said that she was surprised that nobody else had thought of it.
“Shoes haven’t changed in decades, they are still being made the same way they have been for ages. When you look at the heels, it’s like a hard piece of wood that you are walking on.”
Pretty funny. Sounds like shocks for your shoes.
