From Audrey Hepburn’s petite flats to Amy Winehouse’s bloodied pumps, we’re in love with ballet shoes. Shudoo favourites French Sole are even dedicated to gorgeous flats in just about every pattern and colour – that’s how big the ballet look is.
So it’s no wonder that ballet shoe makers Bloch are taking to the street, they are in the process of launching ‘real’ shoes for both women and girls.
With more than 75 years shoeing ballet’s top performers, Bloch have hired young designer Jozette Hazourri to help them create collections Bloch Ladies, Baby Bloch and Bloch Girl all inspired by real dance shoes.
Handmade using the same traditional methods as their pointe shoes, Bloch’s designs are rather more classic than the glittery, animal print or brightly coloured offerings that say, French Sole, are known for. Says Hazourri ‘our shoes have the look and feel of an authentic ballet shoe, whereas others really look and feel like a street shoe.’
Not only do Bloch use ballet designs featuring girly ribbon, ties and satin, their jazz shoes also offer inspiration.
Expect them to be all over celebrity feet next spring and with a toddler’s range on the way too Bloch could be taking the nursery by storm too.
Canvas ballet shoes are comparatively less expensive than the leather shoes and provide a better grip on vinyl flooring. These are very popular for regular classes and can even be washed in washing machines.
