As U2 release their new single, ‘Get On Your Boots’, we thought we would delve into the Annals of Pop to bring you our top five favourite shoe sonnets!
So queue music, lights, camera, action – here we go!
5. Entering the Shudoo.oc.uk charts at number 5 is U2 with “Get on Your Boots”
These aging stars pull another white rabbit out of the proverbial Hat of Rock. Get on Your Boots is an edgy, heavy number, with thumping bass lines, searing guitars and Bono singing about sexy, bossy boots. Bono is a personal fan of huge boots, and the higher the better (he’s very short), so this new hit comes as no surprise to us!
Dancing potential: Very good. Stomp your way across the dance floor military style, preferably wearing a pair of Hunter & Jimmy Choo mock croc wellies!
4. Following closely at number 4 is Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose”
This trainer-tastic hit from the cult 80s classic film has us kickin off our Sunday shoes, shimmying down the street and leaping around in wild abandon. Pop socks with stilettos, leg warmers with Nike trainers, and electric pink brogues – the 80s had it all! For some 80s inspiration check out our French Sole and Gola range. And then reminisce over Ren McCoramak’s fight against the system to bring dance and rock music back to small town America. What a film. What a guy. Sigh…
Dancing potential: Superb! On hearing this song, if you’re not jumping onto car bonnets and dancing down the street in perfect formation you have no soul.
3. At number 3 we have “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” by Paul Simon
This catchy ditty tells of a wealthy lady who takes ‘bling’ to a whole new level. Diamonds on the soles of your shoes might have been unheard of back in the 80s, but today they’re bang on trend. Want proof? Check out Paris Hilton’s sparkly heels or Keira Knightley’s Chanel heels with pearl embellishment (on the soles!). Nuff said.
Dancing potential: None existent. These shoes are purely for show, gentle foot tapping allowed but only if your feet are wrapped in cotton wool.
2. Flying in at number 2 is Depeche Mode’s “Walking in My Shoes”
Depeche Mode are possibly one of the defining bands of the 1980s. Haunting lyrics, beautiful melodies and dark undertones, they captured the sound of a generation. “Walking in My Shoes” wasn’t their biggest hit, but it’s a bloody good tune. Even in 2009, this band maintain a strong cult following, including celeb fans Agyness Deyn and Kate Moss. And this year sees the release of their 12th album “Sounds of the Universe”.
Dancing potential: Medium. Shoegazing is the way forward here. Head down, one leg forward, rock back and forth on feet, and look sullen.
1. No surprises here! “These boots were made for walking” by Nancy Sinatra Jr., claims the number 1 slot in the Shudoo.co.uk Top of the (shoe) Pops!
Forget the Spice Girls, this song is the ultimate in Girl Power. And just check out those boots! Men around the globe should fear the women strutting her stuff in those babies. We know how amazing shoes inspire confidence, so for some serious power dressing, check out our Apepazza collection, especially the Tiziano black leather knee high boot. Get this song on your iPod, strut your stuff, and have those guys quaking in their boots!
Dancing potential: Superb! Slink around in your knee-high boots and be Wonder Woman for the day!
