Being fans of all footwear, whether it be towering heels, comfy Uggs or fashionable flip flops, we know the importance of variety…
You probably won’t get away with wearing soaring heels all day everyday without some uncomfortable consequences, perhaps developing bunions, corns or calluses, none of which you want when you’re beginning to invest in some stylish summer footwear.
For many women, the trend of super-high heels, as worn by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham, is too tempting to resist, however it’s going to take more than a lick of colour-pop nail polish to get them in tip top condition for summer.
A recent report has claimed that more than half of Brits have experienced serious foot pain in the past year. If you combine a love for killer heels with the work-hard play-hard mentality of many young women, surely this is a recipe for disaster?
Don’t get us wrong, we don’t want to put a dampener on all you heel-loving fashionistas (we’re just as guilty), we just want to equip you with the knowledge of how to get away with wearing your much-loved heels without any ugly repercussions.
Like most, you may have neglected your feet all winter, keeping them wrapped-up in socks and boots, and be worrying about what state they’re in for the start of the sandal-wearing season…
Here at Shudoo we want to get you loving your twinkle toes again in time for all those fab gladiator sandals now available, click to shop Gladiator >
If you’re determined to wear your high heels come what may, here’s five simple ways to minimise the damage…
1) Variety is the spice of life
Try alternating between high heels and flats by wearing different shoes every day.
2) Functional fashion
Lace-up brogues are still hot and very foot friendly, follow in Alexa Chung’s footsteps with this comfy trend. You don’t have to completely say goodbye to a heel, a 1.5 inch heel is great for supporting foot arches as are hidden platforms.
3) Cushion the blow
Choosing a shoe with a cushioned insole or buying gel pads when wearing heels will lessen the strain on the balls of your feet, we’ve all experienced that excruciating burning feeling, right girls.
4) Travelling flats
A great tip when on a night out, or if you know you’re going to be in your heels for a long period of time, is to carry a cute pair of ballet pumps in your bag. You can wear them whilst travelling or when you walk home (a great alternative to walking home barefoot clutching you heels).
5) Sensible straps
Women sometimes buy ballet flats that are too small for them to avoid them slipping up and down or falling off, however there should always be room for your toes to wiggle. Opt for the right size shoe but with straps to hold your feet in place, plus strap detailing is huge this season!
You should now be ready to face summer with your best foot forward!
